Piano Forest: Il piano nella foresta (2007)

“Piano no Mori: The Perfect World of Kai” is about young Shuhei Amamiya, who has been learning to play the piano since the tender age of four. He is part of a wealthy family where this instrument is important, so he practices it day in and day out, hour after hour. Due to family circumstances, he moves with his family from Tokyo to a small town and attends Moriwaki Elementary School. His hopes and ambitions are dampened, however, when some of his classmates tease him about his hobby.

Eventually, Shuhei is persuaded to seek out a supposedly cursed piano in the middle of the forest; rumour has it that the instrument cannot produce a single note. After Shuhei meets the open-hearted Kai Ichinose in the forest, he invites him to try his hand at the piano. Shuheis efforts are in vain, of course, unlike Kai, who coaxes notes from the instrument with ease and impresses Shuhei. It is now their shared love for piano music that brings the two opposing characters together.

»The Piano Forest« handelt vom jungen Shuhei Amamiya, der seit dem zarten Alter von vier Jahren das Klavierspiel erlernt. Er gehört zu einer wohlhabenden Familie, in der dieses Instrument Stellenwert hat, also übt er tagein, tagaus, Stunde um Stunde. Aufgrund familiärer Umstände zieht er mit seiner Familie von Tokio in eine Kleinstadt und besucht dort die Moriwaki-Grundschule. Seine Hoffnungen und Ambitionen erhalten jedoch einen Dämpfer, als einige seiner Klassenkameraden ihn seines Hobbys wegen hänseln.

Letztendlich lässt sich Shuhei dazu beschwatzen, ein vermeintlich verfluchtes Piano mitten im Wald aufzusuchen; den Gerüchten nach lässt sich dem Instrument kein einziger Ton entlocken. Nachdem Shuhei im Wald den offenherzigen Kai Ichinose getroffen hat, fordert der ihn auf, sich am Piano zu versuchen. Shuheis bemüht sich natürlich vergeblich, im Gegensatz zu Kai, der dem Instrument mit Leichtigkeit Töne entlockt und Shuhei beeindruckt. Es ist nun ihre gemeinsame Liebe für die Klaviermusik, welche die zwei gegensätzlichen Charakter zusammenführt.
