How to Keep a Mummy (2018)

How to Keep a Mummy racconta la storia di Sora Kashiwaghi, il quale riceve dal padre, che si autodefinisce “avventuriero”, un misterioso enorme pacco. L’ultima cosa che si aspettava da questo pacco era che si aprisse da solo, ma è invece proprio ciò che succede. Nel pacco si trova una mummia, così piccola che trovare facilmente posto nel palmo della sua mano.

You’d think that an adventure-loving parent would be the coolest thing in the world, but in “How to Keep a Mummy”, Sora Kashiwagi is of a completely different opinion: his father is practically never home, the gifts he sends are bizarre at best, often more of a nightmare. And also this time: in a huge package, Sora finds a mummy that is only twelve centimetres tall. Its behaviour doesn’t exactly correspond to the usual mummy clichés, either. Sora quickly warms up to this cute creature and decides to take care of it from now on.

But this is anything but easy: on the one hand, the little bandaged dwarf is constantly drying out, and on the other hand, no one at Sora’s school should get wind of the matter. But that’s easier said than done, and soon the little mummy’s circle of acquaintances grows rapidly. And the mummy is not the only unusual creature because other creatures like a small dragon or a miniature oni soon appear in its environment. Nevertheless, Sora and his friends are determined to master the balancing act between everyday school life and care for a rather unusual kind.

Eigentlich sollte man meinen, dass ein Abenteuer liebendes Elternteil die coolste Sache der Welt sei, doch in »How to Keep a Mummy« ist Sora Kashiwagi ganz anderer Meinung: Sein Vater ist praktisch nie daheim, die von ihm geschickten Geschenke sind bestenfalls bizarr, oftmals eher ein Alptraum. So auch jetzt: In einem riesigen Paket findet Sora eine Mumie, die gerade einmal zwölf Zentimeter groß ist. Ihr Verhalten entspricht auch nicht gerade den gängigen Mumien-Klischees, doch Sora erwärmt sich schnell für dieses putzige Geschöpf und beschließt, sich fortan um sie zu kümmern.

Das ist aber alles andere als einfach: Einerseits ist der kleine bandagierte Zwerg ständig am Austrocknen, andererseits soll auch keiner an Soras Schule Wind von der Sache bekommen. Das ist aber leichter gesagt als getan, und schon bald wächst der Bekanntenkreis der kleinen Mumie schnell an. Dabei ist diese nicht mal die einzige ungewöhnliche Kreatur, denn in deren Umfeld tummeln sich bald auch andere Wesen wie ein kleiner Drache oder ein Miniatur-Oni. Sora und seine Freunde sind dennoch entschlossen, den Spagat zwischen Schulalltag und Fürsorge eher ungewohnter Art zu bewältigen.
