Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2001)

D is a vampire hunter who is half vampire himself – a so-called “Dhampir”. There are only a few of this kind, and in most of them, the vampiric side takes over, but D hunts them for money! His mission is to find the vampire Meier Link, who has kidnapped the daughter of a wealthy man. But he’s not alone in the hunt; a group of hunters who have also set out to retrieve the girl keep getting in D’s way. But not only that, Meier has his own bodyguards, called barbarians, who also make D’s life hell. And then there is also the annoying, if sometimes helpful, parasite who has taken up residence in D’s hand and constantly disturbs him with his nine times smart talk. But who is D really? Where does his superhuman strength, too strong even for a dhampir, come from?

The film is based on the third light novel volume, “Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase”, of “Vampire Hunter D”. However, the ending of the film differs considerably from the original.

D ist ein Vampirjäger, der selbst zur Hälfte ein Vampir ist – ein so genannter »Dhampir«. Es gibt nur wenige dieser Art und bei den meisten nimmt die vampirische Seite die Überhand, doch D jagt sie für Geld! Er soll den Vampir Meier Link finden, der die Tochter eines wohlhabenden Mannes entführt hat. Doch er ist nicht allein auf der Jagd; eine Gruppe von Jägern, die sich ebenfalls auf den Weg gemacht hat das Mädchen zurückzuholen, kommt D ständig in die Quere. Aber nicht nur das, Meier hat seine eigenen Bodyguards, genannt Barbaren, die D ebenfalls das Leben zur Hölle machen. Und dann kommt da auch noch der nervende, wenn auch manchmal hilfreiche Parasit, der sich in Ds Hand eingenistet hat und ihn ständig mit seinem neunmal klugen Gerede stört. Doch wer ist D wirklich? Woher kommt seine übermenschliche Kraft, die selbst für einen Dhampir zu stark ist?

Anmerkung:
Der Film basiert auf der dritten Light Novel »Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase« der »Vampire Hunter D«-Reihe. Das Ende des Films weicht jedoch erheblich vom Original ab.
