Galaxy Express 999: Il film (1979)

In the distant future, humanity will be able to travel extensively through space, but above all, it will be able to transfer a human’s consciousness into a robot. Unfortunately, the matter is immensely costly. However, legend has it that if you manage to travel to the final station on the famous Galaxy Express 999, you will receive a machine body for free.

Tetsurou Hoshino is a twelve-year-old boy living in the slums of Megalopolis City who lost his mother some time ago. She was killed by the dreaded trophy hunter Count Mecha, and now Tetsurou is determined to get a robot body and avenge his mother’s murder. The train that is supposed to take him to his new body only stops once a year on Earth, but since the time is coming soon, Tetsurou has to get a ticket quickly. While trying to scam one, he has to flee headlong from the police and meets the mysterious Maetel. She offers him a ticket free of charge if he travels with her.

On his way to the Andromeda Galaxy, Tetsurou soon realises that Count Mecha’s influence is far-reaching: the route to his destination is full of dangers, but he also often receives approval for his revenge plan. Will he succeed?

In ferner Zukunft ist die Menschheit in der Lage, den Weltraum großflächig zu bereisen, vor allem aber kann sie das Bewusstsein eines Menschen in einen Roboter versetzen. Leider ist die Angelegenheit ungemein kostspielig. Es kursiert jedoch die Legende, dass man einen solchen maschinellen Körper gratis erhält, wenn man es schafft, mit dem berühmten Galaxy Express 999 bis zur Endstation zu fahren.

Tetsurou Hoshino ist ein zwölfjähriger Knabe, der in den Slums von Megalopolis City haust und vor geraumer Zeit seine Mutter verloren hat. Sie wurde vom gefürchteten Trophäenjäger Count Mecha getötet, weswegen Tetsurou nun einen robotischen Körper erhalten und es damit den Mörder seiner Mutter heimzahlen will. Der Zug, der ihn zu seinem neuen Körper bringen soll, hält zwar nur einmal pro Jahr auf der Erde, doch da es bald so weit ist, muss Tetsurou jetzt schnell an ein Ticket kommen. Beim Versuch, sich eines zu ergaunern, muss er Hals über Kopf vor der Polizei fliehen und trifft auf die mysteriöse Maetel. Die bietet ihm kostenfrei ein Ticket an, wenn er dafür mit ihr gemeinsam reist.

Auf dem Weg zur Andromeda-Galaxie muss Tetsurou bald merken, dass Count Mechas Einfluss weitreichend ist: Die Route zum Ziel steckt voller Gefahren, aber er erhält für seinen Racheplan auch des Öfteren Zustimmung. Wird ihm sein Vorhaben gelingen?

La versión cinematográfica de Galaxy Express 999 es casi idéntica a la historia original. La diferencia es que la historia se ha comprimido un poco. Normalmente, visitan más de cien planetas como lo hicieron en el manga y la serie originales, pero Tetsuro sólo visita cuatro planetas. También aparecen algunos de los personajes más populares, como Antares, Claire, Emiraldas y el Capitán Harlock.
