Production I.G., Inc. was founded on December 15, 1987, as I.G. Tatsunoko and is a Japanese company headquartered in Musashino.

The company’s main activities include the planning and production of animation.

In 1987, the production department of Tatsunoko Production became independent, and I.G. Tatsunoko was founded in December. In May 1991, the studio was founded in Niigata.

In 1993, the company was renamed to its current name, Production I.G., Inc. The subsidiary XEBEC was founded in May 1995, followed by the founding of Bee Train Productions in June 1997. In April 1998, the company underwent a major reorganisation. The company was changed from a “Yuugen Gaisha” to a “Kabushiki Gaisha”. (Comparable to the change from a GmbH to an AG in Germany).

In September 2000, the company was merged with Ing, which was founded in the 1990s. Ing was originally founded for planning and production, but after that, it only dealt with copyright issues. In the same year, the company was able to secure the rights to “Blood: The Last Vampire – Night of the Beasts” and released the corresponding anime, which was the company’s first complete in-house production.

In November 2007, the company underwent a complete reorganisation and was reestablished as a subsidiary of the holding company IG Port.

The company has held an approx. 11% stake in the animation studio Tatsunoko Production since June 2010.

In June 2012, the parent company founded the animation studio WIT Studio. The parent company also founded SIGNAL.MD in October 2014.

At the end of April 2010, the company moved into its new offices in the city of Musashino. Previously, the headquarters had been located in Kokubinji for many years. Many smaller offices and studios were also consolidated in the new office space.

In 2019, due to financial problems at the subsidiary, the decision was made to dissolve XEBEC and partially integrate it into the existing company structure. The XEBEC Two department was retained as a department, but became part of the company and was renamed IGzwei.

The sister company SIGNAL.MD was absorbed on June 1, 2025.

Production I.G., Inc. wurde am 15. Dezember 1987 als I.G. Tatsunoko gegründet und ist ein japanisches Unternehmen mit Hauptsitz in Musashino.

Zu den Haupttätigkeiten des Unternehmens gehören die Planung und Produktion von Animationen.

1987 machte sich die Produktionsabteilung von Tatsunoko Production eigenständig, woraufhin im Dezember I.G. Tatsunoko gegründet wurde. Im Mai 1991 gründet man das Studio in Niigata.

Im Jahr 1993 wurde das Unternehmen in den heutigen Namen Production I.G., Inc. umbenannt. Das Tochterunternehmen XEBEC wurde im Mai 1995 gegründet; im Juni 1997 folgte die Gründung von Bee Train Productions. Im April 1998 erfolgte eine größere Umstrukturierung im Unternehmen. So wurde das Unternehmen von einer »Yuugen Gaisha« in eine »Kabushiki Gaisha« umgewandelt. (Vergleichbar mit der Änderung von einer GmbH in eine AG in Deutschland.)

Im September 2000 wurde das Unternehmen mit dem in den 90ern gegründeten Unternehmen Ing zusammengelegt. Ursprünglich wurde Ing für die Planung und Produktion gegründet, kümmerte sich danach jedoch nur noch um Copyright-Thematiken. Im selben Jahr konnte sich das Unternehmen die Rechte an »Blood: The Last Vampire - Die Nacht der Bestien« sichern und veröffentlichte den dazugehörigen Anime, der damit die erste vollständige Eigenproduktion des Unternehmens war.

Im November 2007 fand eine komplette Umstrukturierung der Firma statt; im Zuge dessen wurde die Firma als Tochtergesellschaft der Holding-Gesellschaft IG Port neu gegründet.

Das Unternehmen ist seit Juni 2010 am Animationsstudio Tatsunoko Production mit ca. 11 % beteiligt.

Im Juni 2012 gründet das Mutterunternehmen das Animationsstudio WIT Studio. Ebenso gründete das Mutterunternehmen im Oktober 2014 SIGNAL.MD.

Ende April 2010 bezog das Unternehmen seine neuen Büroräumlichkeiten in der Stadt Musashino. Zuvor befand sich der Hauptsitz für viele Jahre in Kokubinji. Auch viele kleinere Büros und Studios wurden in den neuen Büroräumlichkeiten zusammengelegt.

2019 entscheidete man sich aufgrund von finanziellen Problemen beim Tochterunternehmen, XEBEC aufzulösen und teilweise in die bestehende Firmenstruktur zu integrieren. Die Abteilung XEBEC Zwei wurde als Abteilung beibehalten, wurde jedoch Teil des Unternehmens und in IGzwei umbenannt.

Zum 1. Juni 2025 absorbierte man das Schwesterunternehmen SIGNAL.MD.
