After the queen was dethroned a few years ago, an age of corruption started in Luoyang. Those who had the chance of getting rid of an opponent did so through rumours and betrayal. This turned informants with access to critical information into the most valued resource in the palace.

One of these informants shows up on the streets of Luoyang. He is tasked with giving information to Baili Hong Yi, who is said to appear in a local inn. The informant, however, is being hunted by an assassin, who in turn is being hunted by Gao Bing Zhu, a mysterious man. The informant meets up with Hong Yi, who doesn’t have a clue what to do with the information. As he is thinking about it, the assassin finally strikes. The resulting panic is a great opportunity for yet some other assailants to attack the princess under protection of Wu Si Yue who is undercover in town.

Even though the assassin is imprisoned, the informant is killed. Hong Yi learns he only received part of the information. At the same time, Si Yue tries to find out why the innocent princess is being targeted. Bing Zhu, who was following the assassin for more than a month, is still on the search for answers as well. But with Hong Yi he may have found a surprising but perhaps much easier way to achieve his goals.

It doesn’t take long for the three of them to find the connection, only to uncover a huge conspiracy in the background.

Als vor einigen Jahren die Königin vom Thron gestoßen wurde, begann die Zeit der Korruption in Luoyang. Wer die Möglichkeit hatte, sich durch Verrat und Gerüchte seiner Rivalen zu entledigen, der tat dies auch. So wurden Informanten zur wichtigsten Ressource im Palast, die über die heikelsten Dinge Bescheid wissen und diese weitergeben.

Ein solcher Informant taucht plötzlich in den Straßen von Luoyang auf. Sein Ziel ist ein Gasthaus, in dem der junge Beamte Baili Hong Yi auftauchen soll, dem er die Informationen gezielt übergeben soll. Doch er wird von einem Auftragskiller verfolgt. Und auch der Auftragskiller wird verfolgt: Der mysteriöse Gao Bing Zhu schleicht hinter ihm her. Dem Informanten gelingt es, die Informationen weiterzugeben, und während Hong Yi noch überlegt, was er mit den Informationen anfangen soll, schlägt der Attentäter zu. Eine Massenpanik bricht aus, die sofort von anderen Attentätern ausgenutzt wird, um die Prinzessin unter dem Schutz von Wu Si Yue anzugreifen, die sich gerade getarnt in der Stadt aufhält.

Der Attentäter kann zwar gefasst werden, doch der Informant wird getötet. Er konnte nur einen Teil der Informationen weitergeben, wie Hong Yi feststellen muss. Gleichzeitig versucht Si Yue herauszufinden, warum man es auf die unschuldige Prinzessin abgesehen hat. Und auch Bing Zhu, der den Attentäter schon seit über einem Monat verfolgt, ist weiter auf der Suche nach Antworten – und mit Hong Yi scheint sich für ihn ein unerwarteter, aber möglicherweise einfacher Weg für ihn aufgetan zu haben, endlich sein Ziel zu erreichen.

Es dauert nicht lange, bis die drei die Zusammenhänge verstehen und einem großen Komplott auf die Spur kommen.
