Ip Man 2 (2010)

The Second Sino-Japanese War changed a lot for Ip Man and his family. Although he did not back down during the occupation and won his duel against General Miura, he was injured and, in the end, was lucky to be able to flee with his wife and son. The three of them have been living in Hong Kong for a year now, but it’s not an easy time for Ip Man: his attempts to open a martial arts school fail due to his lack of fame, and even so, it is difficult to keep the family financially afloat.

When a young guy called Wong Shun Leung and his gang recklessly challenge Ip Man but fail miserably, they become his first students in Hong Kong. However, in their attempts to popularise the school, they clash with students from the Hung Ga School. The resulting conflict not only calls the local police to the scene but also Hung Chun-nam, the head of the alliance of all martial arts schools in Hong Kong.

Ip Man is made aware that he has to follow certain procedures if he wants to gain a foothold in the city with his school. Among other things, he has to prove his worth as a martial artist in a special ceremony. Ip Man also has to realise that not everything is proper in this scene and that there is danger from other sides, too. Once again, he has to stand up for his principles and the values of his martial art with his head held high.

Der Zweite Japanisch-Chinesische Krieg hat für Ip Man und seine Familie viel verändert: Obwohl er während der Besatzung nicht klein beigegeben und sein Duell gegen General Miura gewonnen hatte, wurde er verletzt und konnte am Ende froh sein, mit Frau und Sohn fliehen zu können. Seit einem Jahr leben die drei in Hongkong, aber für Ip Man ist es keine leichte Zeit: Seine Versuche, eine Kampfkunst-Schule zu eröffnen, scheitern an seinem Mangel an Bekanntheit, und auch so ist es schwierig, die Familie finanziell über Wasser zu halten.

Als ein junger Kerl namens Wong Shun Leung und sein Gang Ip Man leichtfertig herausfordern, aber jämmerlich unterliegen, werden sie zu dessen ersten Schülern in Hongkong. Bei ihren Versuchen, die Schule bekannter zu machen, geraten sie jedoch mit Schülern der Hung-Ga-Schule zusammen. Der resultierende Konflikt ruft nicht nur die lokale Polizei auf den Schirm, sondern auch Hung Chun-nam, das Oberhaupt des Bündnisses aller Kampfsportschulen in Hongkong.

Ip Man wird klargemacht, dass er gewissen Prozeduren zu folgen hat, will er in dieser Stadt mit seiner eigenen Schule Fuß fassen. Unter anderem soll er in einer besonderen Zeremonie seinen Wert als Kampfkünstler beweisen. Ip Man muss darüber hinaus feststellen, dass in dieser Szene nicht alles koscher abläuft und auch von anderen Seiten Gefahr droht. Einmal mehr muss er erhobenen Hauptes für seine Prinzipien und die Werte seiner Kampfkunst einstehen.
