Summer Season 2025 Preview: Find out what to expect on Crunchyroll in the upcoming season

inviato su da ani-chan; Ultima modifica del post risale al 05. luglio 2025 20:12.
Thanks to Crunchyroll, we got an exclusive look at several upcoming titles even before the new anime season officially begins. Once again, the new season has a wide variety of genres to offer: from wacky comedy series to dark action and emotional slice-of-life stories, everything is included. In this preview, we present some of the highlights that anime fans can look forward to in the coming weeks – spoiler-free, of course, but with a first impression and our opinion.

Detectives These Days are Crazy!

(a first look by RocketsSnorlax)

Kicking off the season is the quirky detective comedy “Detectives These Days are Crazy!”, which will be released on Crunchyroll from July 1, 2025. The twelve-part TV series is based on the manga of the same name by Masakuni Igarashi, which has been published in Japan since 2016 – and in English by One Peace Books starting April 28, 2025. The series is produced by LIDEN FILMS, directed by Rion Kujou, while Tomoki Kikuya is responsible for the music.

The ingredients for the first episode?
A detective who is older, less successful and perhaps a little naughtier than the well-known Kogoro Mouri (formerly known as Richard Moore in the US), before he was hit by a stun-gun for the first time.
A busty high school student who wants to become a detective, has at least as much energy as Haruhi and of course won’t let anything stop her.

What could possibly go wrong? Everything, of course. Or at least almost.
Because if detective Nakumo hadn’t survived his first encounter with high school student Mashiro, who punishes him for his lustful looks, the anime would have been over pretty quickly. And because the former master detective is still half living in the 90s, he is now completely out of his depth even with a simple tail. Nevertheless, Nakumo provides him with a “cover” as a young “girlfriend” and saves his neck.
And after the job of finding a runaway cat is messed up again, they make it into the national news with the results of a “pest control operation”.

Crazy? Yes, the name definitely says it all. Sometimes classic gags just work best.

Clevatess

(a first impression by CipherDood)

“Children are our future” – a statement that has rarely been more apt than in the epic action fantasy series “Clevatess”, premiering on Crunchyroll on July 2, 2025. Based on the manga of the same name by Yuuji Iwahara (“Dimension W”), it tells the story of a group of children who must save the world. The series has been produced by Studio Lay-duce and features Kiyotaka Taguchi as director, Keigo Koyanagi as series composer, Souichirou Sako as character designer and Nobuaki Nobusawa as music composer.

Why is this unusual action fantasy definitely worth watching? Let’s take a look at what it’s all about:

Set in a medieval world on the continent of Edothea, this story centres on the human races living in the centre, while the four cardinal points remain unknown territory. This land is ruled by powerful magical beasts led by the four beast kings. Alicia is a young heroine who wants to follow in her father’s footsteps. Alongside other heroes, she embarks on a mission to defeat the Beast King of the South, Clevatess. However, this endeavour ends in the less-than-glorious deaths of all the heroes.

However, this is not the end of the story. Clevatess fears that humans could one day pose a threat to him and his people. He sets out to bring the King of Hiden to justice. It is not long before the once-proud stronghold of the humans falls, along with its king. However, the plea of a dying boy could prevent the downfall of mankind: “Take this baby in and it will prove to you that the path of mankind is not carved in stone from birth.”

For reasons unknown to him, Clevatess becomes interested in the child and decides to take it with him. However, caring for a human baby presents him with unfamiliar challenges. He uses the power of his blood to resurrect Alicia and make her his undead servant. Thus begins the journey of this unusual trio, which will decide the fate of mankind.

First impression:
Clevatess” is not for the faint-hearted. That quickly becomes clear when the first heads and limbs start flying. However, it is also a story that does not divide into black and white, good and evil, but rather shrouds everything in a certain grey. Each party has its motives and opinions and the right to represent them. That’s what makes this story so unique and interesting, which is why I highly recommend you take a look at this title.

New Saga
(a first impression by RedPanter)

Who wouldn’t want to relive their lives – especially when demons have taken everything you love? Under this promise, “New Saga” starts on July 2, 2025 and brings the popular time-loop fantasy material to the screens as an anime for the first time. The completed light novel by Masayuki Abe has already served as the basis for a manga adaptation, which is available in English from Alpha-Manga. The anime version is being produced by Studio Sotsu, with Norikazu Ishigaoka as director and music by Hironori Anazawa.

What can you expect from this time-loop fantasy?

On the vast continent of Leunder, the humans blessed by God fight against the demons cursed with darkness. After millennia of war, peace was achieved for 300 years, during which both sides flourished again. Of course, peace between such different beings cannot be permanent. With the emergence of a new demon lord, war breaks out again. However, humans are barely able to resist the demons. A final battle is to turn the tide. The remaining human army is to ruthlessly stall for time, while a suicide party led by the hero Kyle is to fight the demon lord. Kyle manages to win the battle, but the price is high. All but Kyle are dead, and even he is dying. With the last of his strength, he reaches a glowing red stone lying on an altar.

After touching your stone, he suddenly wakes up in a strange yet familiar room. It is his old childhood room, where he lived before the invasion of the demon army. During the day, he meets friends and family who are supposed to be dead. As he processes all his experiences in the evening, he concludes: yes, he has traveled back in time and he now has the knowledge and the power to change the world so that no one he loves has to die in the demon invasion in 4 years.

His “New Saga” can now begin.

First impression:
New Saga” plays it safe with the first episode. The series kicks off the story with a bang, hinting at many more funny but also exciting moments. The characters also promise not to be one-dimensional, but to each have their very own strengths and weaknesses. An anime with a lot of heart and an interesting story waiting to be experienced.

Gachiakuta

(a first impression by LLNy)

Gachiakuta” is not for the faint-hearted. Filthy alleyways, angry outcasts and a social system that literally produces rubbish – from July 6, 2025, the new Bones project will plunge you deep into this dark world. The film is directed by Fumihiko Suganuma, assisted by Hiroshi Seko (series composition), Satoshi Ishino (character design) and Taku Iwasaki, who is providing the soundtrack. Two volumes of the original manga by Kei Urana are already available in english from Kodansha – so if you don’t want to wait, you can read ahead.

Ready for some action?
Rudo lives in a world that is not only divided into heaven and hell – but also into muddy and tidy. As a slum dweller in the heavenly world, he is despised by the pure upper class and lives with similar fellers outside the city walls. But when he is accused of murder one day, the police throw him into the abyss – a punishment that threatens all criminals. In this hell, rubbish monsters await him and in order to survive, Rudo joins the ‘cleaning squad’. However, his goal is completely different: revenge on people from the heavenly world!

Visually, the anime offers a visual spectacle, although the use of CGI may not appeal to everyone. Nevertheless, the image composition – not only in the action scenes – contributes a lot to the tension and atmosphere, while the main character is drawn in the usual Shonen manner, being ready for battle but a little annoying.
In addition to the action, the soundtrack also hits the spot. Taku Iwasaki manages to give the world of “Gachiakuta” its very own sound and to emphasise the often dark world with a suitable mix. In any case, “Gachiakuta” is a must for all battle shonen and action fans!

Nyaight of the Living Cat
(a first impression by julixchan)

Cats everywhere – and they’re deadly cute: “Nyaight of the Living Cat” kicks off on July 6, 2025 on Crunchyroll. In this post-apocalyptic parody, it’s not a virus that’s the main threat – it’s the overwhelming wave of fluffy cats smothering humanity with affection.

The anime is based on the manga of the same name by author Hawkman and illustrator Tsurukame. Produced by studio OLM (known for titles like “Bright Sun: Dark Shadows”, “Oddtaxi”) – and yes, things are about to get hairy.

Will this be a cat treat? Let’s take a look at the plot:
In the year 20XX, the world faces a fluffy apocalypse: a mysterious feline outbreak has brought humanity to the brink of extinction – because anyone cuddled by a cat transforms into one themselves!

While most people run in panic, one man still loves the furry menace: Kunagi, who tries to survive with cat-love (and a gas mask) … all while hoping not to be hated by his whiskered enemies.

First Impression:
What if cats weren’t just adorable – but also the beginning of the end? “Nyaight of the Living Cat” dives headfirst into this wonderfully absurd concept: a fluffy pandemic – or better yet, a nyandemic. The anime hits right at the heart of every cat lover: the humor is dark yet fuzzy, and the cat wordplay is absolutely on point. If you’ve ever stepped aside for a sleeping cat instead of scaring them away – you’ll totally get this. You’ll laugh, you’ll panic, and you’ll absolutely want to pet the next cat you see (even though you shouldn’t).

With over-the-top characters, loads of feline fun, and a solid dose of dark humor, Episode 1 makes one thing clear: cats already rule the world – only now, it’s official!

When people hear the word “cosplay” today, they probably think of Marin Kitagawa. We will see her again on Crunchyroll on July 5, 2025 in “My Dress-Up Darling: Season 2”. This new season will continue the adaptation of Shin’ichi Fukuda’s manga of the same name, which was published in Japan between January 2018 and March 2025. The manga concluded with chapter 115 in March, and it is published in English by Square Enix. Production of the anime is once again taking place at Studio Cloverworks with the same team: Keiichi Shinohara is directing, Yoriko Tomita is writing the script, Kazama Ishida is designing the characters and Takeshi Nakatsuka is composing the music.

More than three years have passed since Marin Kitagawa stole our hearts. Like a runaway train, she swept us all along, and we jumped on board with joy. The personification of joy and passion, she could talk about her favourite anime and characters non-stop. Marin speaks to the soul of us otaku. She turned Wakana Gojo’s life completely upside down, but also brought unexpected joy into it. This couple was just so cute and endearing! As men, we could always sympathise with Wakana when Marin strutted in front of him in outfits that were sometimes very daring. Of course, we really wanted to see more of them together, and now our dream is finally coming true! Oh, and how Marin, as a bunny girl, could possibly steal the show from our most famous bunny girl, Mai Sakurajima from “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai”!

First Impression:

You definitely should watch it! If you could have seen my face when I saw Marin again in the first two episodes, you would have noticed the huge grin on my face. It’s great to be able to experience it. I really liked the fact that the studio didn’t just transfer the manga directly, but brought in a lot of their own ideas to make this anime a truly unique experience. It’s a dream come true, and I can’t stop raving about it. But you’ll soon be able to experience it for yourself, so don’t miss out!

Solo Camping for Two

(a first impression from RocketsSnorlax)

Solo Camping for Two” officially launches on July 10, 2025, on Crunchyroll and brings together tranquil moments in nature, outdoor know-how and interpersonal dynamics. The anime adaptation is based on the manga of the same name by Yuudai Debata, which has been published by Kodansha since 2018 and now comprises 20 volumes. An English version has also been available since June of this year and is published in Kodansha’s K Manga app.

The series is produced by Studio SynergySP. It is directed by Jun Hatori, while the screenplay team of Aya Satsuki, Mitsuho Seta and Ouka Tanizaki are responsible for the script and screenplay. The character designs are by Tomomi Shimazaki.

Ready for a vacation?
For Gen Kinokura, 34 years old, camping in the mountains is a hobby that he enjoys above all because of the nature, the peace and quiet and the seclusion. A nice spot, a tent, a small fire to cook something – that’s all he needs. But above all, no annoying people …
And especially no young woman who makes herself comfortable by his campfire when he goes for a short walk. Shizuku Kusano, the uninvited and stray guest, is not so easy to get rid of in the middle of the night. A very tasty grilled chicken and a few not-so-bad conversations later, the gentleman spends the night in the cold in his sleeping bag while she makes herself comfortable in his tent. At least the good breakfast makes up for it.

He would actually like to forget this camping trip, but she won’t let up: “If I camp alone and something happens to me, I’ll come back as a ghost and curse you”.

And so his “Solo Camping” becomes “Campfire Cooking in This World” or “Solo Camping for Two”. Will he find more relaxation in the upcoming camping trips? Or teach her and the anime fans enough about camping? Or maybe something like love is on the horizon after all? We will hopefully find out in the next two cours.

From July 5, 2025, Studio Lesprit will be bringing this quirky slice-of-life gem with a lot of heart to our screens. Based on the manga of the same name by Kou Nikaidou, the series has been published in Japan by Kodansha since 2020 and comprises eight volumes to date. Since late 2021, the series has also been available in English from Kodansha USA, with seven volumes now published.

Directed by Tomohiro Yamanashi and with a series composition by Touko Machida, it tells the quiet and slightly absurd story of loneliness and friendship. Ayano Oowada designed the characters and Rei Ishizuka composed the music.

On a rainy day, Mrs Fuji gives her umbrella to an elderly lady who doesn’t have one. On her way home, she has a fateful encounter. In the middle of the rain, she finds a fluffy creature sitting in a cardboard box, completely soaked. There is a note on the box saying that it wants to be adopted – who could say no to that, especially when it also gives you an umbrella?

This creature, which unexpectedly appears quite intelligent and also takes out a flipchart to communicate, insists on being a dog. Mrs Fuji has absolutely no doubts about it. But is that really the case? On the other hand, do we even need to define it so precisely? The little one enriches Mrs Fuji’s life and quickly grows close to her heart – and that’s the most important thing!

First Impression:

This title is pure feel-good entertainment. After watching an episode, all your worries and stresses seem to disappear, leaving you with a cosy, warm feeling. “With You and the Rain” is perfect for lifting your spirits when life gets you down. Just close your eyes during the final minutes of the first episode and let the sound of the pattering rain work its magic. Absolutely marvellous!

Back on monster duty, “Kaiju No. 8” begins its second round! From 19 July 2025, Kafka Hibino and the Monster Corps will return, once again animated by Production I.G. as in season one. Season 1 was broadcast on Crunchyroll in spring 2024, and the new episodes will be available there again. There was a detour to the cinema in between: the film “Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon”, including “Hoshina’s Day Off”, was shown in cinemas in March 2025 and has recently been streamed on Crunchyroll.

The manga by Naoya Matsumoto is also published in English by Viz Media and on the Manga Plus app by Shueisha, which recently released the final chapter, number 129.

Have you heard the saying, “When you’re over 30, it’s all downhill”? There’s some truth to it: the body doesn’t regenerate as quickly, and the consequences of your previous lifestyle slowly start to catch up with you. I found Kafka Hibino so great precisely because I’m also that age. Despite his age and the fact that things haven’t always gone his way, he is fully committed and always protects his friends and comrades.

It was precisely this trait that inspired his comrades to become stronger and better, so that they could fight alongside him as equals — alongside the man who had risked his life and his future for them.

It is a difficult time for Kafka, too. After revealing his abilities, he must prove his worth to the Defence Corps and demonstrate that he does not pose a threat to humanity. All this is happening at a time when the Kaiju are more active than ever before!

First Impression:

The second round is absolutely fantastic! With great action, huge Kaiju and a soundtrack that fuels the excitement even further, it’s the perfect way to kick off the second round. Look forward to seeing Kafka and co. again!
